The Simple Present Tense
Observe these sentences!
Þ She cleans the garden every Sunday
Þ Fina does not go to grandma’s house twice a week
Þ You do not work until five o’clock everyday
Þ Do we go to school on Sunday?
Þ Does he have breakfast every morning?
The sentences above include in the form simple present tense. The simple present tense is a form of the sentence that used to state the activity or the incident that is carried out or happen at the moment and it is current continually. It is also used for general truth. The activity incident is normally explained with time like:
- Every… (day, week, month, year, names of the days, months)
- Today - once
- At present - twice
It also could be explained with frequency information like:
- Always - rarely / seldom
- usually - never
- commonly/generally - sometimes
- often - almost
Pattern:
The positive form : S + V1 + s/es + …….
The negative form : S + do/does + not + V1 + …….
The interrogative form : Do/does + S + V1 + …….
